Secret Garden is a photography series documenting a women’s clinic in Vancouver that provides free abortion services. Tired of encountering abortion only through theories and case studies in my biomedical ethics class, I decided to visit a clinic in person, hoping to gain a more authentic and intimate understanding of the subject.
After sending numerous email inquiries, I was invited to visit this particular clinic. What surprised me most was its vibrant murals and decorations. Following a brief conversation with the clinic’s owner, I chose to document the space as it was.
Through this series, I capture the beauty of the clinic’s interior while gradually revealing the tensions surrounding the practice and operation of abortion.
